The National Medical Commission has announced that the portal now contains the information of only 1,04,891 students who have been admitted to the MBBS program in medical colleges for the academic session 2023-24. These students are deemed eligible to pursue modern medicine or allopathy. The commission has urged students to review the list of names and reach out to the authority if their name is not included.
The commission emphasized that in accordance with the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023, medical admissions are carried out through a centralized counseling process. Subsequently, medical colleges were instructed to provide the information of admitted students by October 20, which was later extended to November 21 due to the revised deadline for counseling.
In an official notice, the NMC stated that the GMER, 2023 sets out the requirements and procedures for admission to graduate level medical education through common counseling. Following the counseling period, the UGMEB issued a circular on 9th October, 2023, requesting all Medical Colleges to submit the information of students admitted for graduate level medical education for the Academic Year 2023-24 by 20.10.2023.
Additionally, following the extension of the counseling deadline by the Honorable Supreme Court of India, a subsequent Public Notice was released to upload the information of accepted students for the Academic Year 2023-24 no later than November 21, 2023.
The commission has reported that certain medical colleges failed to upload the students’ data, while others provided incomplete information. According to the commission, despite issuing circulars and public notices, only 1,04,891 students admitted for the Academic Year 2023-24 have had their details uploaded on the portal.
NMC has notified that students whose information has been uploaded on the portal will qualify for registration to practice modern medicine or allopathy in India, given that they meet all other requirements according to the established rules and regulations. In addition, NMC has advised students to review the available list on the website. They further stated, “Students who have been admitted to graduate level medical education (MBBS) for the Academic Year 2023-24 and do not find their names on the list should promptly seek guidance from the relevant Directorate of Medical Education/Counselling Authority.”
