NEET UG 2025: Overview, Eligibility, & Updated Guidelines

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Under Graduate (NEET UG) continues to serve as India’s single, unified entrance exam for MBBS, BDS, and other allied medical courses across government, private, and central/state quota seats. Since 2019, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been responsible for conducting the exam and releasing official updates at neet.nta.nic.in.

 

What’s Changed (and what remains the same)?

  • Eligibility Criteria: No major changes were introduced between 2022 and 2025. The NEET 2025 eligibility criteria remain aligned with previous years

NEET UG 2025 Counselling Process

NEET counselling is managed in two major segments:

  1. All India Quota (15%) – Managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)

  2. State Quota (85%) – Conducted by respective State Counselling Authorities

Process Overview:

  • Rounds: Four main rounds—Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round; additional rounds may be added as needed

  • Key Dates:

    • AIQ Round 1 registration began July 21, 2025

    • State counselling Round 1 held July 30 – August 6, with joining deadline August 12

    • Choice filling extended until August 3

    • Seat allotment results released August 3–4, with reporting to institutes by August 8

  • Delays & Updates: MCC extended choice submission deadlines and revised schedules due to operational delays

  • PwBD Category Updates: Candidates must now obtain disability certification from one of 16 MCC-approved centers, and certification will be based on functional limitation rather than percentage

Summary Counselling Timeline (2025):

  • AIQ Registration: Began Jul 21

  • State Counselling Round 1: Jul 30 – Aug 6 (Join by Aug 12)

  • Choice Filling Extension: Till Aug 3

  • Seat Allotment Results: Aug 3 – Aug 4

  • Reporting to Colleges: Till Aug 8


Essential Documents for Counselling & Admission

Whether for AIQ or state counselling, students must submit the following:

  • NEET admit card and scorecard

  • 10th & 12th marksheets and passing certificates

  • Date of birth proof (if not on 10th certificate)

  • Provisional seat allotment letter

  • Identity proof (e.g., Aadhaar, PAN, Passport)

  • Category/PwBD certificate (if applicable)

  • Passport and affidavit for NRI/OCI candidates

NEET UG 2025 maintains its core eligibility framework—no changes to age limits, attempts, or basic academic criteria. The counselling process, though online and structured, has seen scheduling shifts and enhanced measures for inclusivity, like the updated PwBD guidelines.
